Very good food. Only problem is the hours are tight and on Sunday they stop taking orders at 1:15 and close at 2, but great remodeled place to eat in Cairo, about the last restaurant left.
Very good prices. Staff is super friendly. Hometown feeling for sure. Food cooked good and right. Good gathering place. Only takes cash. Coffee wasn't the best but I ain't complaining! Of course we'll go again!
Nice ambiance and small town feel. I probably gave it an extra star just for surviving in a town so economically disadvantaged as Cairo. That earns extra points with me, and my meal was definitely good.
Fantastic place in the middle of nowhere. The remains of the once so great Cairo around the restaurants are also reakly interesting to see. As well as the city wall built to protect the city from flooding. But back to the restaurant, good food at reasonable prices. And it was reaaly nice to see the locals coming and going, especially the elderly that seems to have the restaurant as a meeting place. A bonus as well, colibrie feeders gives you something to look at while waiting for your dish.
I spent a year in southern Illinois 25 years ago, and I still remember the delicious fried oyster sandwiches I ate at least once a week at Nu Diner. So happy to see you're still in business! Someday I need to come back.
A local go to for takeout breakfast.....!. At least 37 breakfasts were picked up in the hour+ I was there, fast enough service and my biscuits and gravy we're good.....!. Okaaaaaaay, the "Gravy was 'close too excellent' and the 'Biscuits were Grilled to my Crunchiness Request'" 🌜😜🤪😬🤓🤩🌛!!!!!!! …
We looked this place up on line on our way south, we will be back again. The special was beef pot pie and salad for $6.50. It needed no extra seasoning and the rolls were warm. The amount was plenty.. It’s worth getting off the main highway to eat and to see what looked to be a grand town at one time.
Good food in an unexpected location. I had the catfish steaks, which the waitress warned me had a lot of bones in it, which it did. The catfish tasted very good as did the cole slaw. My wife had the fried shrimp which were excellent and were enough to satisfy her appetite. Cairo is on a small peninsula and is a bit isolated, but worth the trip. The restaurant staff were also very nice and accomodating. We would eat there again without hesitation.
Ordered their Kentucky Pit BBQ sandwich and mozzarella sticks. The best BBQ I've had in a long time! Cheese sticks a little bland but overall I give 5 stars. Staff was friendly. Service was quick, diner was clean and warm (its 10degrees out right now) and pricing was fair! I will definitely be returning when I come down to Cairo!
Really good portions. Good food and daily lunch specials. Evening specials on various evenins. Reasonable prices. All in all a good place to eat.
